TOO MANY CARDS

If you carry one of our ATM Guard Cards and one of our MasterMoney Debit cards, effective May 1st, 2008, you will no longer be able to use the ATM Guard Card. Your MasterMoney Debit card will access both your share and your checking account.

We are taking this step to reduce the number of cards that you carry and thereby minimize your threat of unauthorized transactions. If you carry both these cards, we suggest that you immediately take the ATM Guard Card and cut it into small pieces and then discard. As always, if you have any questions, please give us a call.

Important Debit Card Tips

Debit cards are a convenient way of paying for everyday items because they can help you manage your money better. However, due to the increasing number of unauthorized charges and rise in identity theft, here are some tips debit card users should know:

  1. Use your hand or body to shield your PIN when you are conducting transactions at the Automated Teller Machine (ATM), or when making Point of Sale (POS) transactions at retail stores.  Avoid potential “shoulder surfing”.
  2. Never let your debit card out of your sight when conducting a POS transaction. Be certain the transaction is complete and review the receipt before leaving the premises. Always remember to take the receipt with you and record it in your register. Then shred your receipt before discarding it, since it contains valuable account information.
  3. Regularly check your statements and balances to verify all transactions have been properly documented. If entries do not accurately reflect transaction activities, for example, if there are missing or additional transactions, you should contact your Financial Institution immediately.
  4. If your debit card is lost, stolen or retained by an ATM, notify your Financial Institution immediately upon becoming aware of the problem.
  5. Your debit card and PIN are the keys to your account(s). Never disclose your PIN to anyone. Keep your card in a safe place and never lend it to anyone.
  6. Memorize your PIN - it's your electronic signature. If you suspect that someone knows your PIN, change it immediately or contact your Financial Institution immediately to cancel the card.  It is strongly recommended you do not write down your PIN.
  7. When selecting your PIN, never use obvious information such as your telephone number, date of birth, address or social security number.
  8. Only conduct ATM transactions when & where you feel secure.  If you suspect that someone may have obtained your PIN or account number, please contact your Financial Institution immediately.

Do You Know What They’re Saying About You?

“Most people don’t find out they have been a victim of stolen identity until they are turned down for a loan or credit card. A copy of their credit report explaining the denial may unveil weeks or months of fraud.” ~CNNfn.com

In addition to catching reporting mistakes, checking your credit report regularly can help you catch identity theft/fraud before they wreak havoc on your personal finances.

When checking your credit, make sure the report contains only accounts and creditors authorized by you. If you do not recognize a transaction, feel free to ask. After all, it is your credit information.

All consumers are entitled to receive one free credit report every 12 months from each of the three major credit bureaus.

Your free credit report can be requested by:
